I have alot of easy dog questions?
micro chipping your dog cost? What about neutering? How about toenail clipping how much does it cost and how often do you have to do it? How often do you have to give your dog a bath and what kind of shampoo do i need to use? Where can I get the brand of dog food called Canidae or Candida (or some name like that i forgot what it was)?
Dont worry i dont have the dog yet im gonna get it in like a year, i just want to get prepared so i can be a good owner.
1) Our clinic charges $30 to insert the microchip, however, owners do need to pay the chip company (Avid, Home Again, etc.) an activation fee. The fee is around $20 for the membership.
2) Neutering costs at our clinic go by weight. The more the dog weighs, the more anesthetic used, the more pricey.
3) Nail clips vary by dog, some need a routine trim, while other can last a little longer. I always say as soon as you see a tip in need of trimming, go for it! That way you can help to keep the quick from growing far down into the nail. When my dogs were pups I clipped their nails as often as possible to get the used to the feeling,noise, etc. Now, they are pros! I clip my nails about every 2-3 weeks depending on if they need it. We do a lot of walking on pavement, so I find that to be a natural “trimmer”. Our clinic charges $12 for a canine nail trim. Places like Petsmart charge about $8… really depends on where you go.
4) I only bathe my dogs when they need it. It is recommended to not bathe your dogs more than twice a month, unless they absolutely need it. You would hate to dry out the skin. I use oatmeal based shampoo found at pet stores.
5) Many places sell Canidae. I believe you can go to their website and find a store locator. Our vet office sells it, a natural dog food store and Agway sell it in our town.
