Yes, it is highly possible to still be alive despite not getting HIV treatment. The mean survival time for patients with HIV is 8-9 years without treament, although it could extend to 15-20 years. Once you have AIDS (defined as HIV + an AIDS-defining disease such as PCP or esophageal Candidiasis, etc), survival is usually 6 months to 2 years.
Pneomcystis jiroveci (previously Pneumocystis pneumoniae) is a common organism in healthy lung, but our immune system prevents it from causing disease.
